Seoul is actively implementing community initiatives to enhance the well-being of its elderly population. These programs aim to provide comprehensive care, promote social engagement, and utilize technology to support seniors in leading fulfilling lives.
Integrated Care Services
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has introduced the ‘Seoul-style Integrated Care Service,’ offering 58 services across healthcare, health management, long-term care, daily care, and housing. This initiative enables elderly and disabled residents to receive care in their own homes, reducing the need for institutionalization.
Leisure and Social Engagement
Recognizing the importance of social interaction, Seoul has launched the ‘Vitality Recharge Project,’ investing over 200 billion won through 2032 to establish ‘Vitality Recharge Centers’ and ‘Vitality Recharge Stations.’ These facilities provide leisure, health, and digital experiences, encouraging seniors to engage in community activities and maintain active lifestyles.
Technological Support
To ensure the safety and health of seniors, Seoul is incorporating advanced technologies into elderly care services. AI-based care robots, such as companion robot dogs and rehabilitation robots, are being deployed to assist seniors in their daily lives. Additionally, smart welfare centers and digital experience programs are being developed to bridge the digital divide and offer new opportunities for engagement.
These community-driven initiatives reflect Seoul’s commitment to creating an age-friendly city where seniors can thrive and remain integral members of the community.
